Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 27, 2026Last updated: July 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information HomeCostBrief may process, why it is processed, how advertising and analytics may work, and the choices available to visitors.

Important: This page describes the site’s intended and current practices but is not a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer or privacy professional for a specific business or jurisdiction.

Scope and site operator

This policy applies to the HomeCostBrief website, its articles, calculators, search tools and related pages. HomeCostBrief is the site operator for the practices described here.

Questions or privacy requests can be sent to [email protected]. Please do not send sensitive financial, medical, identity or account information by ordinary email.

Information you provide directly

If you contact HomeCostBrief, the information received may include your name, email address, message, page URL, attachments and any other details you choose to provide. This information is used to answer the message, investigate reported errors, address rights requests and maintain records of the communication.

Technical and usage information

Hosting, security and delivery providers may process technical information needed to operate and protect the site. This can include an IP address, browser and device type, requested URL, referring page, timestamps, approximate region, network or security signals and diagnostic logs. Cloudflare describes its own processing in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

HomeCostBrief does not use this information to create a user account. Provider logs may still be processed for security, abuse prevention, performance and service reliability.

Calculator and search inputs

The current calculators run in the visitor’s browser. Calculator values are not intentionally transmitted to a HomeCostBrief application server by the static implementation. Search terms entered in the on-site search tool are processed in the browser unless a future service is clearly disclosed.

Do not treat this as a guarantee that browser extensions, network providers or third-party software cannot observe activity on a device.

Cookies and similar technologies

HomeCostBrief uses browser storage to remember the cookie-banner choice. This is treated as essential storage because it prevents the banner from appearing on every page after a selection.

Advertising or analytics cookies and similar technologies are denied by default in the current consent code. Selecting Essential only keeps those categories disabled. Selecting Accept cookies permits the site to initialize configured advertising and measurement services. See the Cookie Policy for more detail.

Advertising and Google services

HomeCostBrief may use Google AdSense or related Google publisher services after the required account, policy and consent setup is completed. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, limit, measure and, where permitted, personalize advertising based on visits to this site or other sites. Learn more in Google’s advertising technologies explanation and Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google and its partners control their own processing under their published terms and privacy materials. Advertising is labeled and does not determine editorial conclusions, calculator results or source selection.

Regional consent requirement. Before personalized ads are served to visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom or Switzerland, HomeCostBrief must use a Google-certified consent management platform that meets Google’s applicable requirements. The site’s basic banner should not be treated as a substitute for that certified setup.

Analytics

Analytics may be enabled to understand aggregate traffic, popular pages, device categories, referrals and site performance. Non-essential analytics storage remains disabled unless the visitor accepts cookies or another legally valid mechanism applies. Any analytics provider may process technical identifiers and usage events according to its own documentation.

Information may be processed to operate and secure the site, respond to communications, prevent abuse, measure performance, maintain editorial quality, comply with legal obligations and support advertising where enabled.

Where a legal basis is required, processing may rely on consent, legitimate interests in operating and securing the site, steps requested by the visitor, or compliance with legal obligations. The applicable basis depends on the information, purpose and visitor’s location.

How information may be shared

Information may be disclosed to hosting, security, email, analytics, advertising and professional-service providers only as reasonably needed for their role. It may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights or safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a business reorganization.

HomeCostBrief does not sell personal information for money. Some advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising activity can be treated as a “sale,” “sharing” or targeted advertising under certain U.S. state laws even when no money is exchanged. Where those laws apply, the site and its providers must offer the required choices.

Retention

Information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including security, communication, legal and recordkeeping needs. Provider logs and advertising or analytics records follow the retention settings and policies of the relevant provider.

Cookie-consent choices remain in browser storage until the visitor resets the choice, clears site data or the stored consent version is replaced.

Security

HomeCostBrief uses reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a small static publishing site, including HTTPS through the hosting platform and limited collection of direct user data. No online service, storage system or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

International processing

Service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy protections and government-access rules may differ from those in the visitor’s country. Where legally required, providers are expected to use an approved transfer mechanism or other safeguards.

Your privacy rights

Depending on location and applicable law, a visitor may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, information about processing, or withdrawal of consent. Some U.S. state laws may also provide rights concerning targeted advertising, sale or sharing, profiling and appeals.

To submit a request, email [email protected] with enough information to identify the request and the relevant interaction. HomeCostBrief may need to verify the requester’s identity and may retain limited records to document the response. A visitor may also have the right to complain to a local privacy or data-protection authority.

Children

HomeCostBrief is intended for a general adult audience interested in homeownership and rental-property planning. It is not directed to children under 13, and HomeCostBrief does not knowingly seek personal information from children.

Articles may link to government agencies, regulators, service providers and other external websites. Those websites have their own privacy practices, cookies and terms. HomeCostBrief is not responsible for their data handling.

Policy changes

This policy may be updated when the site, providers, advertising setup or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date will be revised when material changes are published. Continued use after an update does not replace consent where consent is legally required.
